1 October 1873.jpg May it please you Mr Mayor and Gentlemen,

We the undersigned, Chinese, resident at and in the vicinity of the Chinese Camp, respectfully beg to call your attention to the almost impassable state of the so-called road leading from the Creswick Flour Mill at the corner of Albert and Bridge Street to the before-mentioned locality. We do not ask for work of any magnitude, nor do we solicit or expect any considerable outlay, but simply request that One Footpath may be made along the road alluded to, to enable our relatives, friends and customers to visit our several business establishments; Many being at present deterred from so doing unless at the risk of wading through mud and water. We are never backward in contributing according to our means to any movement for charitable purposes, and submit that such fact alone should entitle us to favourable consideration. We promptly and cheerfully pay such rates as are from time to time imposed, and trust you may not deem us unreasonable in praying that we may be placed on a footing with our European brother burgesses by being allowed, at least a footpath along the line indicated. Trusting you fail to discover any injustice in granting the prayer of this our respectful petition, we beg to be allowed To submit ourselves Mr Mayor and Gentlemen, Your most obedient humble Servants
