Queenie - the Killer Elephant?

Queenie, a calm and friendly Indian elephant, was sentenced to death in 1944 after killing her keeper of 15 years, Wilfred Thomas Lawson at the Melbourne Zoological Gardens, also known as the Melbourne Zoo. Witnesses claim the elephant deliberately attacked Wilfred, while those close to the pair claim their relationship was one of mutual affection and respect.

Was the a random act of aggression, or had Queenie been holding a grudge against her keeper after years of abuse and forced obedience? Tell us what you think on the discussion page!
