| This Christmas card was produced by the State Savings Bank of Victoria and is one in a series of Christmas cards in this collection. This card is quite special and unique as it was made to send to the bank officers who had went off to fight in World War One. This particular card is quite beutiful to look at and has a typical Australian scene on it to help lift the spirits of the Diggers who were off fighting the war.
The card depicts a scene with a Kookaburra sitting on an old timber farm fence with gumtrees and and old hut in the background. To the right of the card next to the timber fence is a boomerang with the word coo-ee printed on it. The inside of the card is also quite special as it has a poem on the left hand side titled "The Dark Before the Dawn". This poem was written by Mr Ian Maxwell son of the late John R. Maxwell, Inspector and branch mangager of the State Savings Bank of Victoria. It is a beutiful poem as it offers the soldiers hope for a new day. The right side of the inside of the card expresses the Christamas and New Year wishes of the Commissioners and Officers of the State Savings Bank of Victoria to those Officers who were off fighting the Worlds Greatest War for Liberty and Civilisation.
The card is signed off by Geo. E. Emery, Inspector General of the State Savings Bank of Victoria and is dated 30th September 1917.
