Help:Using Tags to Browse the Wiki
A tag is a keyword or term that helps describe the contents of a page and allows it to be found again by browsing or searching using the tag.
Tags can be grouped into categories or properties that provide some guidance around their use e.g. Has person name, Has date, Has record type.
You can use tags to browse the wiki in a number of ways:
Method One: Using the FactBox
If a page has been tagged you will see the tags in a box at the bottom of the page. The box is titled 'Facts about <pagename>'.
Step 1 If you don't see the FactBox just click on the 'Refresh' tab at the top of the page.
Step 2 In the FactBox click on the small magnifying glass icon next to a tagged value. This will take you to a page that will show you a list of all the pages on the wiki that has been tagged with the same value.
Step 3 What's the little blue question mark icon for? If you click on this you will be able to do a search outside the wiki using the tag value.
Step4 If you would prefer to see all the pages on the wiki that have been tagged with a similar category of tag just click on the category name inside the FactBox e.g. Has person name, Located in, Has record type. This will take you to a page that will show you a list of all the pages on the wiki that use this category of tag.
Method Two: Using the Properties Page
There is a special page on the wiki that lists all the properties or categories of tags used on the wiki. The page is located at http://wiki.prov.vic.gov.au/index.php/Special:Properties
By clicking on any of the properties e.g. Has person name you will be taken to that property page which lists all the pages on the wiki using that property or category of tag.
The best way to learn about using tags to browse the wiki is by clicking on them and seeing where they take you. As more and more pages on the wiki get tagged you will be able to jump from one related page to another simply by clicking on the page tags.
