My grandfather worked in the Railways. Can I see his employment records?

PROV has some Railway employee records.  You can search the online catalogue for these records according to the branch that they were with.

You can also search the Victorian Government Gazettes for permanent employees.

Do you have drawings for the locomotives?

PROV holds plans of the Victorian Railways rolling stock.  These are found in Victorian Public Record Series (VPRS) 3426 and can be searched online.  Records can then be ordered to view at the VAC reading room. 

Do you have photographs of railway stations?

You can search PROV's website for the historical images of Railway Stations.  Go to PROV homepage then the Exhibitions to search the index from the link on Transported Back.  You can download the images or request copies of the images.

Do you have old train timetables?

PROV holds the indexes to the old working timetables 1926 to 1938 also Special Occasion timetables.

The special occasion tables included either annual holidays or major events such as Easter, Christmas, New Year, Royal Show, Australia Day, Labour Day, Melbourne Cup and Royal visits.
